What Is ABA Therapy?

If you’ve been looking into autism treatments, you’ve probably heard of ABA, which stands for applied behavior analysis.

ABA is widely regarded as the most effective treatment for autism, supported by decades of research. It’s recognized by medical, psychological, and behavioral health experts as the leading approach. The United States requires insurance coverage for ABA, and therapy can take place in many settings, including your child’s home, school, community, or specialized Learning Centers.

ABA isn’t a single therapy method. Instead, it’s a flexible approach that uses different techniques to help children build the skills they need to thrive at school and in daily life.

What We Mean by Contemporary ABA

At Priorities ABA, we use the term “contemporary ABA” to show how our approach stands apart from the older, more rigid methods of the past.

Contemporary ABA builds on the original ideas of applied behavior analysis but has evolved significantly since the 1970s and ’80s. Back then, ABA mainly focused on reinforcing specific behaviors. Today, it’s a more modern approach designed to be child-centered, age-appropriate, and focused on supporting the entire family.

What Makes Our Approach Stand Out

Our contemporary ABA approach is shaped by years of clinical experience and research. Here’s what makes it unique:

Our experts use the latest data and research to guide treatment

It’s designed to make learning fun, natural, and age-appropriate

It’s tailored to meet your family’s specific needs, interests, culture, and values

It treats you and other caregivers as key partners in your child’s progress

Science is constantly evolving, so it’s crucial to choose a provider who keeps up with the latest research and is dedicated to clinical excellence. Our team actively participates in applied behavior analysis (ABA) conferences and professional training. With the right support in place, we give your child every opportunity to thrive.

The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that I am helping children learn new skills that build confidence and connection. Seeing my clients communicate, make friends, or do something independently for the first time makes everything worth it.
